An ode to a masterful Miu Miu collection

An ode to a masterful Miu Miu collection

When listing runway shows that scream “Miu Miu”, this one is probably not the first one that comes to mind. Yet, the SS 2001 show ticks all the checkboxes, when it comes to creative direction that we typically associate with Miu Miu as a brand.

The show features an array of flowing, feminine silhouettes with playful details — plunging necklines and shorter hemlines, sometimes in a single look.

Yet, this is a tamer representation of sexuality than Miu Miu’s counterparts of the time. Where Dolce & Gabbana and Roberto Cavalli presented rowdy and daring outfits, Miu Miu remains true to its younger, more girly roots.

A standout of the show are the geometric print accessories, namely shoes and handbags, which are interspersed throughout. This marks another significant stage of the brand’s experimentation with leather, especially as a journey towards their signature matelassé leather accessories.

Sure, SS 2001 is not a spectacular show by means of theatrics or excess. Yet, it’s full of delightful little details that make up Miu Miu, and what a pleasure it is to spot them, when exploring the looks from this collection.
