Introducing — Marithé + François Girbaud
Founded in 1972 by two designers, this brand ended up revolutionizing fashion by incorporating innovative processes into garment-dyeing, cutting, and assembly techniques.
⠀
By launching the concept of baggy jeans, this brand departed from traditional, tight and straight styles of the 70’s. Not only did they experiment with denim silhouettes, but also with stone-washing, which provided their denim garments unique textures and finishes.
⠀
As the brand rose to popularity, they began introducing various technical details into their designs. Runways presented garments made of high-tech fabrics and with peculiar pocket-placements, which were not seen before.
⠀
Especially throughout the early 2000’s, this brand solidified its experimental approach. On the runways, models walked in layered outfits, composed of laser-cut denim, asymmetrical skirts, and utility-style tops and jackets.
⠀
Although the brand is still active, I think its golden age was most definitely during the early 2000’s — at the peak of its technological innovation and stylistic choices.
⠀
And the name of this brand is — Marithé + François Girbaud.
