The Dreamiest Miu Miu Show

The Dreamiest Miu Miu Show

One of the dreamiest, but simultaneously most eclectic, Miu Miu shows — FW2021.

Setting the show in the Dolomite Mountains, Miuccia Prada sent models walking through snowy hill-scapes to present the new collection. This setting is symbolic: not only does it echo Prada’s love for perilous mountains, but also translates the anxieties of returning to a post-pandemic world.

Models were clad in several layers of garments, from silky slip dresses and puffy skiing jackets to shearling coats and furry boots. Indoor styles were combined with outdoor styles; clothes you’d typically wear on a skiing adventure complement garments you’d choose, when dressing for a night out.

Yet again, we see Prada lean back on her love for the utilitarian. In this show, specifically, clothes were made to represent a sense of bravery, and mark a turning point, with regards how we would dress after coming out of confinement in our own homes.

To a certain extent, the eclectic mix of outerwear and lingerie-style garments reflect the desire to dress up, but perhaps not knowing how to. This results in whimsical and hectic outfits, which are difficult to label as “wearable”

It’s interesting to examine this fashion show in a broader time-frame. In the past few seasons, we’ve departed from leisurewear towards more formal and tailored styles — as many return to the office after working from home.

Despite the nervousness that initially marked our entrance into a post-pandemic world, we continuously see ourselves making sense of societal changes through fashion.
