A look at an early 2000s Dolce & Gabbana show
Many know about the iconic SS2003 show by Dolce & Gabbana.
⠀
However, not everyone looks further, at earlier Dolce & Gabbana shows, to find the designers experimenting what made SS2003 so good — technical elements, punk influences, and a mix of fitted and flowy silhouettes.
⠀
This is why I’d like to highlight Dolce & Gabbana’s SS2001 shows, as one of the foundations for why vintage Dolce & Gabbana is so great. Although the show is not as cohesive, it features elements that would later becomes consistent themes in Dolce & Gabbana’s designs.
⠀
We can observe first appearances of laced up garments, such as skirts and dresses; the use of sheer fabrics and lace for tops and dresses; introduction of metallic elements and experimentation with leather.
⠀
Certainly, this collection is a lot tamer than SS2003. If SS2003 is all about sex and rebellion, the SS2001 show is just a prelude: the Dolce & Gabbana girl is only starting to discover ways of expressing her sexuality.
