It is rumoured that Loulou de la Falaise was baptised in Schiaparelli perfume in lieu of water — and this wouldn’t be surprising, given the socialite’s glamorous life. She was born in England to a French bohemian, Maxime de la Falaise. After spending some time between London and New York, she was invited by Yves Saint Laurent to work as a jewellery designer in his atelier in Paris.



The two formed a lasting friendship that extended beyond their work relationship. Saint Laurent was heavily inspired by de la Falaise’s eccentric style. Her “more is more” attitude is reflected in her jewellery designs, as she produced chunky, layered, and colourful pieces, oftentimes “clinking around” in her own designs at the atelier.

Following the death of Saint Laurent, de la Falaise launched her own ready-to-wear business, including a jewellery line. However, the brand didn’t survive de la Falaise, who died in 2011, leaving behind her legacy as “the quintessential Rive Gauche haute bohémienne”
