The iconic accessories of the Miu Miu FW 2006 ready-to-wear collection

Presented in a quaint Parisian restaurant, this 2006 collection left a mark on fashion history — especially when it comes to the accessories shown.

The Miu Miu FW 2006 fashion show marked Miu Miu’s debut in Paris, as this was the first time Miu Miu had presented their collections during Paris Fashion Week. Set in Laperouse — a renowned Parisian restaurant established in the 18th century — the show accommodated its viewers multiple salons, adding to the its intimate feel.

Not only was this setting perfect to introduce the brand to Paris Fashion Week visitors, but also to present the intricate garments of this collection. Several silk garments were photo-printed with still life, which were reminiscent of the restaurant’s decor, meanwhile brocade fabric was adroned with fleur-de-lis motifs.

The ornate design of the clothing was accompanied by its accessories. This was the first show to present the iconic Miu Miu Coffer handbag design, featuring heavy golden hardware and pleated leather.

Featuring chunky platforms, often of carved wood with baroque designs, the shoes were an eclectic mix of Mary Janes, clogs, and tall leather boots.

Fur was also commonly seen across the collection, with some coats and jackets featuring fox fur sleeves or handbags being crafted out of died fur.

The maturity of the design elements — the patterned silks, the heavy shoes, leather and fur — were juxtaposed by the models youthful makeup. Again, this reinforced the standing of Miu Miu as Prada’s younger sister. One who wants to seem older, at times.

It’s exciting to see some garments from this show recur to this day, such as the Coffer handbag or the carved wood high heels. The latter have been featured in Brooklyn Museum’s “Killer Heels” exhibition — a testament to this show’s timeless craftsmanship.
