On a first glance, the collection is nothing we haven’t seen before, especially from Miuccia Prada. It is at the moment when we start looking at the details, that we can notice this show’s merits. Models walk the show, clad in blazers, midi-skirts and cupcake dresses — quite simple, no?

As the show progresses, Prada’s playful manipulation becomes more obvious: leather padded with neoprene to add thickness, extremely cinched waists, and padded shoulders.

Prada called this show “a vision of what’s happening in the world right now with women” — she implied plastic surgery, botox, and filler, which were already prominent at the time. In this vision, she presents that “plasticised” version of a woman but using the frame of traditional garments.

This blazer is a perfect example of that vision. The grey lamé fabric is somber and formal, but the extremely cinched waist, tied with the black fabric, is a reminder of Prada’s message. The inside is fully lined.
